Fans of classic early 60s tunes are heading to the Broadhurst Theatre to see the new Broadway musical Baby It’s You! Starring 2011 Tony nominee Beth Leavel as Florence Greenberg, the pioneering record producer who discovered the Shirelles at her daughter’s New Jersey high school, the show is packed with hit songs, lively dance numbers and fabulous costumes. Broadway.com resident artist Justin ‘Squigs’ Robertson checked out the show and penned a portrait of the fabulous Ms. Leavel surrounded by Geno Henderson, Crystal Starr, Christina Sajous, Erica Ash, Kyra DaCosta and Allan Louis. It’s their party, and Squigs captures the rocking vibe at Baby It’s You!
About the Artist: With a desire to celebrate the magic of live theater and those who create it, and with a deep reverence for such touchstones as the work of Al Hirschfeld and the wall at Sardi’s, Squigs is happy and grateful to be among those carrying on the traditions where theater and caricature meet. He was born and raised in Oregon, lived in Los Angeles for quite a long time and now calls New York City his home. Photo by Matthew Murphy
